After a series of heatwaves, typhoons, torrential rains and floods, humanity is enduring much more frequent weather disasters. Since 2020, extreme weather and natural disasters have caused global losses of US$3.6 trillion. To address extreme weather, such as Typhoon Maysak, which drenched Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Hubei Province in July, China called for concerted efforts nationwide to offset climate impacts, from preventive measures to evacuations. Meanwhile, with weather satellite forecasts and relief deliveries by drone, tech is playing an essential role in emergency preparedness and rescue. China is also rehabilitating ecosystems, developing flood retention capacities and publicizing survival skills to mitigate disastrous consequences. Experts suggest the world pay much more attention to climate change, otherwise drought and rainstorms will continue to exacerbate.
